Process
Applicants please note that Indian Machine Readable Passports (MRP) are not prepared in the Embassy and issued to the individuals from its office in Bratislava. Passports are prepared and printed by the authorities in India and sent to us for onward despatch to their rightful owners. The process starts with the applicant depositing completely filled in Passport Application along with all the necessary documents; the case is then referred to authorities in India. If everything is found correct by them, the passport is printed and sent to the Embassy. Applicants have to be careful about giving proper information in the application form, depositing necessary documents including photocopies wherever necessary and provide appropriate colour photographs. Photos that do not meet the prescribed specifications would be rejected, resulting in Embassy asking for fresh photographs of the applicants thereby delaying the printing of new Passports in India.

Under Indian law, Persons of Indian Origin, who have acquired foreign citizenship, are required to surrender their Indian passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship.
2. The Indian Citizenship Act, 1955, does not allow dual citizenship. Holding Indian passport/acquiring Indian passport/travelling on Indian passport after acquisition of foreign citizenship constitutes an offence under the Indian Passport Act, 1967, and attracts penalties. The Government of India has prescribed imposition of penalty on a graded scale, depending on number of trips made on Indian passport after acquiring foreign nationality, for the violation of Passport Rules.
3. Persons of Indian Origin applying for Indian visa for the first time after acquiring foreign nationality are required to first renounce/surrender their Indian passports.
The Government of India has recently introduced centralized machine readable passport printing system for Indian passports.
Following the introduction of this system, the Embassy of India in Slovakia is authorized to issue handwritten Indian passport booklets only in EMERGENCY cases.
Under the new system, the data relating to passport applicants would be uplinked to the Centralised Indian Passports Printing System (CIPPS) wherein, it would be downloaded and processed for printing. After printing, the passport would be couriered by the CIPPS to the Embassy. The Embassy would, thereafter, handover the new passport to the applicant and cancel the previous passport.
The time taken for issue of machine-readable Indian passports would be approximately one month. All Indian nationals in Slovakia applying for new passports are therefore advised to apply to the Embassy of India in Bratislava well in time before the expiry of their existing passport.
