Embassy Launches Gandhi@150 Celebrations in the Slovak

The Embassy celebrated the 149 th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the International Day of non-Violence with the launch of Gandhi@150 celebrations in collaboration with the University of Economics, Bratislava at its main auditorium on 2 nd October 2018.


The celebration included photo and book exhibitions; floral tributes to Gandhi and speeches by Ambassador Harsh Kumar Jain and the Rector of the University Mr. Ferdinand Dano; inspirational talks, Satya Vaarta, by Mr. Pavol Demes, Former Foreign Minister, Mr. Eduard Chmelar, a noted historic and political analyst and Mr. Milan Sismis from Slovak National Library; release of commemorative stamps issued by the Government of India and video of ‘Vaishnav Jan To’ bhajan sung by Slovak Artist Ms. Petra Humenanska Sedlakova; and screening of Gandhi@150 Visual Narrative, a special film prepared to highlight the relevance of Gandhi’s message in today’s world.


A short documentary on Mahatma Gandhi’s life was also screened. About 300 guests and students attended the event.


In the evening, four videos viz-a-viz Gandhi at 150: the visual narrative (English); Fusion video of ‘Vaishnav Jan To’; Gandhi at 150: the Visual Narrative (Slovak); and Slovak rendering of Bhajan ‘Vaishnav Jan To’, were projected on the façade of Kernov Dom in the Old Town of Bratislava.
